WhisperKOOL Phantom 3500 Wine Cellar Cooling System
A fully ducted, self-contained system for cellars up to 800 cu. ft. โ installed out of sight in an attic or adjacent utility room and ducted quietly into your wine room.
Phantom 3500 Key Features & Benefits
Fully Ducted, Self-Contained Design
The Phantom 3500 is a single self-contained unit intended to be installed in an attic or a utility room adjacent to the cellar, then ducted in. Nothing is visible inside the wine room, and there is no separate condenser to place or field-charge.
Liquid-Temperature Bottle Probe
By monitoring liquid temperature instead of air temperature, the bottle probe keeps your cellar at true wine-aging conditions and prevents the short-cycling that air sensors can cause.
Quiet, Powerful Airflow
Centrifugal blowers deliver strong airflow (approx. 326 CFM top-orientation) while keeping operation quiet โ the unit can be oriented with blowers on the top or side to suit your duct layout.
Advanced Digital Control
An advanced digital display on a 50-ft cable puts setup and monitoring wherever it's convenient, paired with the liquid-temperature bottle probe.
Optional 24V Thermostat Conversion
The Phantom can be ordered with a 24V thermostat conversion kit for integration with smart thermostats (Nest, Ecobee, Honeywell). This option replaces the standard control and bottle probe, and the smart thermostat is sourced separately.
Handles Warm Mechanical Spaces
Rated to run in ambient temperatures as high as 110ยฐF, so it performs even in a hot attic or utility room.

Where It Fits in the Range
The Phantom line is fully ducted and self-contained: the Phantom 3500 covers cellars up to 800 cu. ft., the Phantom 5000 up to 1,250 cu. ft., and the Phantom 8000 up to 2,000 cu. ft. Confirm sizing with a heat-load calculation before ordering.
A Note on Sizing
The cellar-size rating assumes a fully insulated room with a complete vapor barrier. Design factors such as glass walls, stone or concrete, high ambient temperatures, frequent door openings, or in-cellar lighting can increase the cooling load. When in doubt, choose the next capacity up โ an undersized unit can run continuously, fail to reach temperature, and is not covered under warranty. We're happy to help you run the numbers.
Installation & Setup
The Phantom is a self-contained ducted system โ it installs in an attic or utility room next to the cellar and delivers conditioned air through ductwork. Plan duct runs and a dedicated circuit before installation.
Pre-Installation Requirements
- Fully insulated cellar with a complete vapor barrier (min. R-19)
- Dedicated 115V, 20-amp circuit
- Attic or utility room adjacent to the cellar for the unit
- Supply and return duct runs planned
- 1/2" ID drain line routed to a suitable drain
Placement & Airflow
- Locate the unit in an attic or utility room next to the cellar
- Orient blowers on the top or side to suit your ducting
- Keep the space ventilated โ unit is rated to 110ยฐF ambient
- Duct both supply and return for balanced airflow
Cellar Design Best Practices
- Maintain consistent insulation and seal all air leaks
- Complete the vapor barrier on the warm side of the insulation
- Install a properly weatherstripped cellar door
- Plan rack layout for good air circulation
Maintenance
- Keep the condenser area clean and unobstructed
- Check the digital controller and bottle probe periodically
- Inspect the drain line for free flow
- Schedule an annual professional inspection
